Are you seen as the “go-to” with your youth when they need help? Your WHEAT skills are probably strong, and they trust you. As adult leaders, it’s essential to support their growth for conflict resolution. These are building blocks to being a good peacemaker. Take a look at Mary and Martha’s story: Jesus was Martha’s “go-to” when she was mad at Mary for not helping. Jesus responded in a way that surprised Martha. How does Jesus always seem to know what to do?
Being a peacemaker requires an understanding of why conflict arises and how to respond effectively. It is helpful to explore ways to respond to conflicts before they occur. We want to be prepared with some responses when our emotions run high. This session delves into affect theory, explores the impact of conflict, and offers opportunities for problem-solving practice. You are encouraged to do your own work during this part of the training. The more we understand our own shame responses, the more authentic we become, which strengthens our relationships and trust with our youth.
